In Person FAFSA Workshop Oct. 27
Attention Sussex Tech Seniors and your parents or guardians!
FAFSA Workshop
Sussex Tech High School Library
Wednesday, October 27, 2021 – Event appointments from 5:00 pm – 8 pm
Why should you attend? The 2022-2023 Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as the FAFSA, opened October 1 with a new online design and a few tweaks to financial information questions.
Filing the FAFSA is required for students who wish to be considered for federal financial aid and is used by colleges and states to determine eligibility for grants and scholarships. Students must reapply each year to receive aid.
The final date to submit the 2022-2023 FAFSA is June 30, 2023, but deadlines vary among institutions and states.
So in order to help you, STHS is conducting a “hands-on” workshop that will provide students and their families with actual, real-time assistance in completing the FAFSA. The goal of this interactive workshop is to provide high school seniors and their families with actual, real-time assistance in completing the FAFSA.
Depending on your circumstances — for instance, when you filed taxes or what tax form you used — you might need the following information or documents as you fill out the FAFSA.
- Your Social Security number — it’s important that you enter it correctly on the FAFSA form;
- Your parents’ Social Security numbers if you are a dependent student;
- Your driver’s license number if you have one;
- Your Alien Registration number if you are not a U.S. citizen.
- Federal tax information or tax returns from 2020 including IRS W-2 information, for you (and your spouse, if you are married), and for your parents or guardians, if you are a dependent student: IRS 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ; Foreign tax return and/or; tax return for Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, or Palau;
- Please note that PARENTS WHO FILE “MARRIED, FILING JOINTLY” WILL ALSO NEED TO LIST HOW MUCH EACH PARTNER MADE IN 2020. This is not listed on the 1040 but is on the W-2 or on your State of Delaware tax return;
- Records of your untaxed income for 2018, such as child support received, interest income, and veterans noneducation benefits, for you, and for your parents if you are a dependent student.
The Sussex Tech High School has engaged Stand By Me Coaching to help in providing one-on-one filing advice. Educators and coaches will be available only by appointment.

IMPORTANT NOTE: It is recommended that you acquire your FAFSA ID prior to the workshop. Each student and ONE parent will need to have one in order to “sign” the FAFSA. Creating this ID is the equivalent to setting up an “account” with the Department of Education for purposes of confirming your identity and will be required for FAFSA for all 4 + years of the student’s college career. To begin this process, go to https://fsaid.ed.gov/npas/index.htm. And, as a reminder: FAFSA is required for all state scholarship programs, including SEED and INSPIRE.
